Dans les coulisses de l’installation du nouveau télésiège du Lac-Intrêts

With increased speeds and greater comfort, the new Lac-Intrêts chairlift project has been designed to mirror nature’s rhythm. It uses more eco-friendly equipment, a more virtuous operating system, and promises more exciting skiing!

The Lac-Intrêts chairlift carried its first skiers in 1975 but has now been dismantled to make way for a greener, more cutting-edge solution. This new variable-speed six-seater climbs a total of 500 meters, carrying some 3,000 fans of the white stuff per hour, which is 25% more than the old lift. It uses less electricity and follows a new route, no longer traveling above the Stade chair, and has a new arrival point at 2,250m above sea level for better access over to the Grand Combes sector below Les Hauts-Forts.

A more virtuous lift

In order to limit the impact of this new project on the mountain, the work was organised according to the biological cycle of the resort’s indigenous creatures, with great care taken to avoid disturbing the reproduction cycle of the mountain’s marmots. In terms of the installation itself, the lift uses the latest motor technology that requires no oil to function and can be maintained in situ. This cuts out any environmental pollution and reduces the apparatus’s carbon footprint. It uses less energy and is driven in an environmentally-friendly way with speed determined by user affluence. As a result, energy costs have been slashed by 24%.

New pistes for fans of winter sports

The Lac-Intrêt lift’s arrival is a new high point for Avoriaz, opening up new trails for visitors. The Tête aux Bœufs run has been redesigned and a new Creux de la Neige red run created that is tucked into an area reputed for its great natural snow coverage. Skiers and borders will enjoy an additional 1.5 kilometers of runs from the top of the lift, with more details on that new trail coming very soon!
